postheadericon Appologies and hiatus

Now, this won't be a very long post as I really have so much to do I don't have time to sit around moping as I'm doing at the moment. First of all, I appologize about my unannounced absense. Once again I headed back home to my hometown for a week and to celebrate the national day that was the 17th of May.

The lolita meetup was postponed because of bad weather, so I'll have to wait with going to my first meetup too. But I still went to Oslo with my boyfriend and we had a FABULOUS day! Last monday our japanese group (we have a japanese class with a small group of friends where the teacher is a friend of ours) went to our teacher's home too and had a japanese evening and celebrating spring. We sat by the kotatsu and ate yakisoba and drank sake while we looked out at our teacher's japanese garden... It was so fun and a really great evening!

Other then that... I noticed the 30 Days of Lolita meme is being done everywhere! *laughs* In one way it's really funny how memes spread around the internet like that and at the same time I'm pretty honoured that so many want to do the meme even if they don't know who started it even. It's fun!

Anyway. This is just a small update to announce I will still be on hiatus for at least one more week. Tomorrow I'm starting on my trip to Stockholm (will take about 24 hours with bus and train so I'll be there on wednesday) and I will meet my oldest and closes friend again! On wednesday evening we're going to a video game music concert (can't wait!!) and then we're off to Uppsala and Uppcon for good times with cosplay and friends. Next monday I'm handing in my last exams and after THAT I'll try to become more active again.

Thank you all for being so patient with me.

See you guys!

Oh and as a little bonus I'll add a picture of myself in my bunad (national costume) from our national day. I LOVE this dress <3 Possibly more then I love lolita clothes.

postheadericon Day 8!

10 songs that inspire you for lolita.

Ah! I've been looking forward to this post! Simply because I love music and this post will include a lot of music that I connect to lolita. So this is simply my take on lolita fitting music (and personal preferences in the same go), and my view of the fashion (and which side I like of it), is pretty well portrayed throught the following songs. Well except for the first one... There will be a lot of YouTube clips here, so just bare with me. Here we go!

1: Gothic Lolita - Emilie Autumn

I know you all saw this coming so that's why I'm posting it first! The reason is pretty self explainatory, so I won't go deeper in on that. Except that despite the "message" it gives, I love it. And yes; I am an Emilie Autumn fan.

Haunted Carousel - Nox Arcana

Actually their whole album, Carnival of Souls, fits with my idea of a gothic, creepy, lolita doll. As heard from the music I absolutely love this side of the fashion so there will be more of  this kind. This is also very fit as inspiration for me as I really want to have a dark carnival style in my wardrobe. I just don't have the items for it yet!

3: Gingerbread Coffin - Rasputina

First time I heard this song I immediatly fell in love. I think the music and lyrics all fit my personal view of the fashion and the little world that surrounds it.

4: Victor's Piano Solo - Danny Elfman

Actually... Tim Burton's movies in general are very fit for all gothic aspects of anything. Hehe... I just find this melody absolutely beautiful, and elegant and it's very inspiring for a soft gothic and or aristocrat look.

5: Impartial (The Battle) - The Clockwork Dolls

This song is beautiful. Full of hope, loyalty and fighting will! I love this and it inspires me simply by building confidence to face the world as the one I am and stand up for it. Everyone needs a motivational song like this, and luckily for me... I've got tons.

6: Lullaby - El Laberinto del Fauno

Such a beautiful and sad melody. I don't really have more to say about this.

7: Lacrimosa - Kalafina

This is the song I literally wake up to every morning. It's my alarm signal! Kalafina in general is a group I really like and their aestethics and music really fit in with what my view of lolita is. This song is also the ending song on the first season of Kuroshitsuji, and really... Any lolita+anime lover would agree that that series has got it right when it comes to mood, scenery and outfits.

8: Prelude - Versailles

More beautiful music from Japanese artists. Versailles is my favorite Visual Kei band and their music and styles is a great inspiration. I can't wait to see them live again on the 3rd of June!

9: Engel - Scala and the Kolacny Brothers

Now who would think that a song originally by Rammstein would ever make it to this list? Sure, they're always on my regular music list. I love Rammstein. But on the fashion show on Uppcon last year, this started playing and I was shocked as soon as I realized it actually was Engel. So I seeked the fashion show host up later and got the artist's name from her.

10: Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 in C-sharp minor - Franz Liszt

A lolita music list is nothing without some classical music. And since about ALL classical music can be viewed as lolita music I simply chose one of the pieces I love the most! It starts oh so serious, but as the piece proceeds it turns very humourous and playful. This community may be scary at first, but it's full of friendly people with a good dose of humour and self irony. Hehe.

As a little extra (as we didn't have enough youtube films here already), I will add my favorite Tom and Jerry episode which is built around the piece by Liszt. I grew up with this cartoon and I hope you'll enjoy! I'll see you all tomorrow. Toodles!

postheadericon Day 7!

10 people who inspire your lolita style.

Oh my... This is honestly a hard one. I take my inspiration from everything. Not only people! But there are a few lolitas/models that I really admire and love the style of. I don't have enough to fill out all 10 spots, but I will list those I admire.
  1. Akira
Yesh! Model for Baby the Stars Shine Bright/Alice and the Pirates (yes the header picture was chosen of her on purpose). This is also the only model I actually look up to. I'm not much of an "idol" person, but this woman... I think I might have a girlcrush on her. I always love her outfits in the GLB's and if I ever manage to pull the kodona/aristocrat look of just HALF as well as her, I will be one of the happiest people on this planet.
  2. Clefdemoname/Miinouche36
    Daily Lolita

She has to be the most awesome gothic lolita ever. A beautiful woman with an absolutely beautiful gothic style! That and I love her video blog.
  3. Shelbycloud
    Daily Lolita

She must be about the only sweet lolita I really admire. She's got a beautiful style and she's great at coordinating her outfits from everything to OTT sweet to very elegant classic.
  4. Theosakakoneko
    Daily Lolita

Just because her style is awesome. Whenever she ever posts her massive blogposts on daily_lolita I almost squeal in glee! She's so creative with her coordinations and I just LOVE her new haircut!
These are the four lolitas I truly look up to! Of course there are a lot of awesome lolitas around and I love to look around and grab inspiration from all of them. Keep going girls (and guys)! You're all awesome!! <3

postheadericon Day 6!

Whooops! A little late, but I'll make both Day 6 and Day 7 today. Day 7 will be up tonight.

10 things you can't live without in lolita.

Now this is an interesting topic. It might be a little hard to find 10 things I can't at all do without, but I'll try. Which is easier said then done as I've already stagnated at 5...
  1. Computer
This is one of the main things I need. Hadn't it been for the computer and internet I would have never discovered this fashion. I would have never been able to buy the clothes I own, do my research or gotten to know other lolitas. Not one day goes by without me checking out lolita related sites on the web, and I wouldn't have it any other way either.
  2. Bloomers
I absolutely hate wearing skirts without bloomers. I feel so naked and I'm always afraid people will see more then I want them to see. Therefor bloomers are a great invention that I won't leave the house without wearing. I even use them when wearing skirts and dresses that isn't lolita.
  3. Petticoat
So, yeah, I love poof! And a lolita dress or skirt without a petticoat... No. I do have ONE exception and that's empire waist dresses. They do fine without the extra poof. But then again I only have one of these too.
  4. Tights
For the same reason that I love bloomers. They cover me up and hide what I don't want to be shown. I do own some knee socks and OTK (actually a lot of them), but unless I wear a longer dress or skirt I always stick to tights.
  5. Hairstraightener
I do have naturally straight hair, but it's thin and easily goes astray. But a hairstraightener does wonders to sort it out and make it look good. I love my tiny hairstraightener that can come with me anywhere!
  6. Makeup
I wasn't a too big fan of makeup before, but lolita and cosplay has made me love it! I don't wear it everyday, but if I'm going out in lolita I always wear makeup.
  7. Friends
Well, these I can't do without no matter what. But I really appreciate the one who holds out when I start rambling on about lolita, designs, dresses I want and so on. I don't think she's reading this blog, but if she did she'd know who she was! Also, the friends I've made over the web means a lot to me too!
  8. Boots
Know those boots I wear all the time? The knee high lace-up boots? Those. Those I can't live without. Simple as that. I love them too much!
  9. Pen and paper
Yes, you guessed right; For drawing pictures and designs. Drawing is one of my favorite hobbies (even though I've been pretty inactive lately..), so I don't go anywhere without bringing something to draw on with me.
  10. PSP/GBA SP
Okayokayokay, not lolite related, but I ran out of things to write, as you perhaps noticed over the three last points. Hehe... I'm a game nerd, and I'm in love with these to hand consols. So there.
I'll be back in the evening with the post for Day 7.

postheadericon Day 5!

10 items from your wishlist.

Now THIS will be a picture heavy post (click them if you wanna see larger by the way), so you guys just brace yourself! I won't include my dream items in this post since I already have an own page in this blog for my dream items. Also, this is not my whole wishlist. I'm having a bloody hard time figuring what ten items I'm gonna put here. Want too much!! Anyway. Here we go!

1: Kidsyoyo VM Style Fairy Doll JSK

This is dress is currently one of my most wanted items on my wishlist. I have wanted a white, casual looking JSK for ages now, and when my friend sendt me the link to this I was overjoyed! For me it's perfect! It's just casual enough to be worn everyday, and still pretty enough to be dressed up! The fabric looks so light and comfy too, and I imagine this as the perfect summer dress. I also love how you can bustle it both in the front and the back!

By the way, this is also the dress I wish to use for the Shiro Goth coordination I mentioned some few posts ago.

2: An*Tai*Na Classic Lolita Shoes

I want two pairs of these shoes. One pair in white and one pair in black so I can mix and match them! I don't really know why I fell for these to begin with, but I just simply did. I love the classic yet sweet and a little whimsical feel they have to them and I can imagine they would be awesome in a black and white circus inspired outfit.

I actually saw these up for sale in the egl_comm_sales just some weeks ago. Two pairs, one in white and one in black, in the right size even, for a cheap prize. But I was so bummed out to know I was completely broke at that moment.

3: The 69th Department Black and White Striped Blouse

Yes, I love black and white and TaoBao. Hehe...

Since I fell in love with both gothic styles and lolita I have also fallen in love with black and white striped garments. This blouse just screams to me and I can imagine wearing it with a black jsk or highwaisted skirt and in many different kodona outfits! Oh and also as part of the black/white circus outfit I mentioned up there. *points to shoes*

4: Alice and the Pirates Circus Print JSK

One of the few brand pieces on my wishlist and also one of the few pieces which isn't solely black and white. Hehe. When I saw this print I immideatly fell in love with it. I absolutely LOVE everything circus themed and this print manages to incorporate it without making it too much! The colours are muted and pretty and the cut of the JSK itself, with how the bodice looks more like a vest then a part of the JSK and with the small pull of fabric to show the ruffles underneath, is just beautiful.

Honestly this one is close to making it to the dream item list...

5: Fanplusfriend Pirate Lolita/Gothic Prince/Ouji High Collar Coat

What can I say? Awesome coat! I just hope that when I finally get around to order it, they won't mess up on meassurements and deliver a good product. I've only had one mishap with Fanplusfriend before, and it wasn't even a major one, so I hope it'll keep up like this. Simply because this coat is gooorgeous and I've wanted it for over two years now.

6: Suppurate System Rose Crown

I will admit it and I won't be ashamed of it either. Almost all of my accesories have black roses in them. It's because I automatically fall head over heals for accesories with black roses on them. This crown is no exception. I can imagine wearing this mini crown in a rose themed gothic hime coordinate together with my black Beauty and the Rose Promise JSK and tons of other black rose accesories. Really. If I can't get this crown into my life, I will at some point DIY it just to have it.

7: Double Decker White Wood Sole RHS

I'm not really a fan of rocking horse shoes at all. I don't even know why I want these. But I think it's simply because of my obsession with shoes and the fact that they would look awesome in the right coords. I've decided for myself that if I'm ever going to get a pair of RHS it will at least be with wood sole and these from Double Decker are the only ones I've found that have the right shape and sole for my tastes. *nod* Yupp. I do want these.

8: Surface Spell Night Wish Chiffon Blouse

Reasons I want this: Chiffon and lots of lace!
This blouse I fell head first for when I first saw it. And when I get money (of course it's a "when" no fun with "if"s ;p) I will be on the safe side and get one black and one white in the same go. There are so many gothic coordinations this blouse would look just stunning in and I hope to one day be able to have and wear it.

9: Innocent World Tulle Lace 3/4 Sleeve Blouse

This is also a blouse I would just love to have one in black and one in white. This is how I usually work. If I find one spesific garment I absolutely love, I get them in all the colours I like. Especially when it comes to basic things such as blouses.

The sleeves on this blouse is the reason I fell for it in the first place. Usually, the short sleeved blouses in lolita feel too short on me as I'm not a fan of revealing my upper arms. But then again, long sleeved blouses gets too warm in the summer and I'm generally not a fan of long sleeves either. Therefor the sleevelength on this is perfect and I love the little lace details.

10: Demonia Slush - 249

Now, this isn't very lolita, is it? But I've fallen completely for these boots, and even though they are made for other alternative fashions then lolita, I am absolutely positive that if the right coord was found, these shoes would rock even more then they already do.

Another reason they're on my wishlist; They could go with almost any of my out-of-lolita styles and that's always a plus. I love versatility!

That was that! It was hard, but I managed to pick out 10 items from my waaay too long wishlist. But this gives the general idea of what's in it. Yes. You guessed right. Black and white. There aren't many dresses there though. Most of the dresses I want only exists in my head. Perhaps I'll sketch some of them out and post them next week or something.

I hope you enjoyed! Now it's barbeque time and I'll be back tomorrow.

Toodles!

postheadericon New haircut and Day 4!

Let's start with my new haircut and end with day 4 since nothing in this post is really... Directly... Lolita related... Oh well. It's good to have a little break once in a while isn't it? So anyway!

About 2 weeks ago I headed off to the hairdresser in my hometown to get a haircut. It was pretty early in the morning and I said to my hairdresser that I wanted something new, short and more rock/punked up then what I had. She told me she would get rid of all the frayed ends and then we could go from there and see how it turned out. She cut the tips of my hair, gave me a little bit of forebangs and then she said herself finished and hushed me off to pay. It was barely noticable I had cut my hair at all!

So. Today I headed to the hairdresser in the town I study in instead. This time I brought some reference images of the kind of style I wanted just to be on the safe side. The hairdresser was super friendly, easy to talk with and she had a blast cutting my hair and everyone walked out happy! Needless to say I'm über happy with the results. Let me show you!

I'm just so happy I finally got something done with that mess of a hairdo I had before! With this cut I got rid of everything called ruined hair, only the healthy is left. The hair in my neck is gone, which feels great since it's starting to get a little hot around here and I hate to feel warm in the neck thanks to too much hair. Also this is so much easier to style and make look good. I can't wait to see how it looks with a lolita outfit and accesories.

And with that said, let's head over to part 2 of this post.

10 different kinds of food you like.

I'm just going to make this as simple as possible as it's not really lolita related at all. I'm just a food wreck who loooves good food!
  1. Lasagna!
  2. Strawberries (I'm a strawberry addict)
  3. Pasta in home made cream and mozerella sauce with fried bacon
  4. Steak with potato gratin
  5. Wok/stirfry
  6. Garlic bread
  7. Homemade pizza
  8. Taco and tortillas
  9. Any kind of lamb
  10. Pitabread with chicken salad
And that was that. Tomorrow you will see ten items from my wishlist so that's something to look forward to! Oh, and what do you guys think of my new haircut? If anyone have any ideas for styling or what not, throw it at me! I'd be delighted to hear them.

postheadericon Day 3!

10 things you hate in lolita.
  1. Care of clothes
Now this seriously is one of the most annoying things in lolita. I usually just stuff all my clothes in the washing machine and let them be before you hang them up to dry, but with lolita pieces there's a whooole other story. Handwash, dryclean, mild wash, can't hang some things up to dry, can't wash at all, bleeding prints... Hell, where does it end?! Why can't they just make washproof clothing? Is it really that hard?
  2. The cost
Yes, yes... I know. "Lolita is an expencive fashion, deal with it or GTFO." Sure. I'm dealing with it. It still doesn't mean I have to be happy about paying thousands of NOK for a dress and another thousand for getting it into the country. Even fabric cost money and not to talk about good quality lace when you need it in quantities.
  3. Bad lace
Yes, talking about lace, I might as well take this point at once. There are few things I love more in lolita then soft pretty lace. BAD lace however... *shudders* I can't stand it when I see a perfectly good garment (whether it be lolita or goth or visual kei or whatever) covered in bad itchy, skratchy lace. They would have been perfect if the lace was of a better quality!
  4. Distance
That I live so far away from any of my lolita interested friends or stores or any community at all. It gets lonely after a while to not have anyone to discuss lolita related things with face to face.
  5. Not an everyday fashion
I know it's hard to do so, but let's face it. Lolita is not an everyday fashion. There are occations it's not at all appropriate to run around with petticoats, tons of accesories and long wigs and what not. Sure I'd love to wear these clothes every day, but it's really not possible! Which brings us to point number 6...
  6. Unpracticality
This fashion is unpractical. I LOVE to wear it, but bus rides, going to stores, practical school work, work at all. No. Once again, it's very unpractical and just not fit for an everyday basis and a modern world. Even casual with a less poofier petticoat is still unpractical at times.
  7. No petticoats
Now this is just a pet peeve of mine, but I feel it should be mentioned since some say it's just to not wear a petticoat if it gets in the way and it's still lolita. Hm... Well. Sure it may still be lolita, but it just looks weird. The skirts are made for petticoats, so therefor they look weird without them. ... But that's just me and my logic.
  8. Sizing
Any "plus-size" lolita struggle with this and even some normal sized lolitas. Most of us want at least one dress from a brand, but it's easier said then done when one need to be tiny to fit into most of them. Especially when it comes to the classical and gothic brands.
  9. Fanatics
Wow, I'm really starting to run out of things to hate... But yeah. Fanatics. This goes for everything really. The kind of fanatics who have their mind set on ONE thing and thinks everyone else is wrong and that their whole life revolves around one thing (lolita in this case). There are other things in life that are way more important then clothes, girls. Learn to appreciate them.
  10. Style fights
I know this doesn't occur often, but I don't like it those times I see a hate message towards either gothic or sweet or any other style in the secrets or anywhere else. Actually it's pretty annoying with the hate between lolita and gyaru too... Or the goths or emos... Or anything else for that matter. We dress how we like and after who we are at the moment so the best is just to accept it and let people like what they like.
Hm. I feel this became a little of a rage post... But it was about hate so why not? Though I will add as a last note that I don't really hate any of these things. I dislike them a lot, yes, but hate... I don't like that word. It's too strong.

Anyway!

postheadericon Day 2!

10 things you love in lolita.
  1. Lace
Really! What is there NOT to love about lace? I didn't particularly care about it at all when I first got into the fashion, but after I aquired some items full of frilly, lacy goodness, I have become addicted. It's beautiful, add a perfect decorative touch to any piece and it's soooo soft to touch and wear.
  2. Highwaisted skirts
There are few clothing items that give a nice shape then a high waisted skirt. I might have mentioned before that I'm not a particularly big fan of the skirt+shirt combo for myself, but for highwaisted skirts I take it back.
  3. Induviduality
Lolita is a fashion with a lot of rules of what's right and what's wrong and what not. Yet even within these lines, people manage to create an amazing individuality by making the fashion their own by making their own clothes and accesories, or simply mix and match brand and offbrand to create awesome styles and coords!
  4. Shoes
I have to admit that over the last years I have become a shoe addict and lolita definatly haven't helped with this! I've got so many pairs of shoes on my wishlist it's not even healthy.
  5. Petticoats
Oh the fluffy goodness... I haven't been seriously into lolita for that long, but I already have 4 petticoats and I love them so much. I love to wear them too! I really enjoy the layer upon layer of fabric that makes my skirts and dresses poof and wave back and forth as I walk.
  6. Roses
Sure I love roses on a general basis too, but give me almost anything rose related, may it be rose lace, rose print, rose accesories etc, etc, I am almost sure to love it to death.
  7. Bags
There really aren't many other fashions where you can get bags shaped as cardsuits, houses, books and coffins. This alone is one of the reasons I love lolita bags so much. Not only do they work to carry things around in, but they work as an accesorie alone and can really help to complete an outfit!
  8. Chiffon
A beautiful fabric for a beautiful fashion. What else can I say? It feels like heaven to wear!
  9. Headpieces
This is really something I need to get more of. I love almost all kinds of headpieces ranging from simple headbands and barrettes to elaborate flower corsages to hats. They come in all different shapes and sizes and without at least SOMETHING on the head, an outfit seems a little unfinished.
  10. JSKs
My favorite kind of garment in lolita because they are so versatile and can be worn in so many different ways. They are also perfect for me who is a giant fan of layers in outfits.
That was my list of lolita awesomeness! And as promised, a shot of what I will wear at the meetup.
Added to this I will also wear lace tights, have my spade shaped bag and hopefull more rings and a little this and that I found around and dark make-up. But now I reeeeaally need to go to bed sooo...

postheadericon What to bring...

Another post about the meet up! Yes! I am excited about it.

Last night I figured out what I will wear and it will be straight out gothic for once. When I get home I will post a picture of the coord for you guys to see. But the reason I'm writing this isn't because of the outfit. But more because I'm stuck. This meet up will be a picnic meet. The one who arranges it will bring a big picnic blanket  and sandwiches and teacups for all, but if we wanted something other then that we would have to bring it ourself.

So I really wish to make something for the other girls attending. But I'm not sure of what. I really want to make cupcakes, but the meet is 1 and half hour busdrive away from home, and I don't wish to bring too much to carry around since it's a bit of a walk from the bus stop to the final location too. So what I'm asking is...

Should I bring cupcakes? Or should I make cookies? Or should I just make some small gift for the others attending? So far there are 6 other lolitas on the guest list. And if I do end up making cupcakes, what kind would be the safest to make?

I would appreciate any suggestion. Thank you!

postheadericon Day 1!

Okay, so I didn't have time to start the day I said I would, but then I'll start today instead!

10 things about your lolita bubble.
  1. My lolita style is a dark style. It varies between gothic and dark classic and I absolutely love black and white coordinations. I just wish I could do more of them!
  2. When it comes to lolita I don't only love the fashion, but I love the aestethics and hobbies that follows with too. When I one day get a room of my own (completely for my own, not only a dorm), I will decorate this room in an elegant gothic style witch I love. I will have a shelf with framed pictures of my lolita idols and candles placed around the room.
  3. In my little bubble, all lolitas get along despite styles and experience. I am very happy that the lolitas I have chatted with so far have all been wonderful and friendly and I can't wait to include more of them in my little bubble!
  4. DIY is a very important part of my lolita bubble. Both when it comes to making clothes myself and modify them and to make my own decorations. I love that lolita is helping me so much with doing more myself instead of always buying things!
  5. My lolita bubble really needs a mascot... Hm. *thinks*
  6. Desiging clothes is one of my favorite past times, and I love to dream about and draw dress designs that I one day hope to be able to wear. At the moment I have the sketch of a full set (JSK, underskirt, shirt and hat) hung up on my wall and the day I am 99% positive I can do it right, I will make one set for me and 1 set for my best friend.
  7. To give and make things for others is something I really love. To see that my friends are happy is very important to me, and I also hope to someday be able to participate in a craft exchange for lolitas.
  8. My lolita bubble is important to me, because it's one of those things I can burry myself in. I can spend hours reading through tutorials and blogs, studying dresses and the history of brands and the fashion itself.
  9. Hopefully I will be able to expand my bubble sometime and be able to help other lolitas who are interested in this fashion to better understand it and become involved. Lolita is one of the few things I really wish to be able to teach others about. Even though I probably never will have the opportunity, I am making a presentation for beginners if the opportunity to have a panel ever should show up.
  10. Even though my bubble is quite small, I would still love to get to know other lolitas better. If anyone wish to get to know me better, just ask for my mail or MSN and I will be thrilled! One can never get enough friends!
That was ten random things about my little bubble! I hope you enjoyed and stay tuned for next day in this challenge.

postheadericon Confirmed and 30 days of lolita!

I am so incredibly excited! The lolita meet up I talked about now has a set date and it is the date I can go! So in two weeks, on May 14th, I will be going to my first meet up ever, and I might even be able to enjoy the company of one of my best friends who also wants to go. Life couldn't be better at the moment! ... No wait. It could. I could be done with everything called costumes for Uppcon and exams, but that's another story. Hehe.

Other then that, I have decided to do a challenge. I read through the blog of another dear friend of mine and she decided to do a 30 day challenge. I thought that sounded fun, but what would be even more fun (and fitting for that matter) would be to modify the 30 day challenge to have a lolita theme. So that's exactly what I did and I will start with this challenge today! Here's the rundown:
