postheadericon Fishing for ideas and Day 10!

Now I'm finally back in my dorm. The friday was spent to drive here and the saturday was spent to clean and tidy my dorm room to beyond recognition. I might have had many bad thoughts about this room, but now that it's finally completely clean again I can see the potential of a perfectly me-i-fied room. So do look out for som home décor DIY over the coming months!

But that's not what I was going to talk about right now. While we cleaned up I got a better look of what's stuffed in my left-over-fabric box, and truth be told... There is a LOT there. But so far I have only found two pieces I would really like to make something of, but I have no idea WHAT. So therefor I am asking my dear readers... Do you have any good ideas for what I can make out of 200cm x 60cm tartan fabric and 300cm x 150cm plain white cotton fabric?

The tartan fabric I bought right after I got my sewing machine a couple of years ago, to start practicing sowing skirts and the likes. I think I bought some extra when I made a skirt for my friend too, so it might be from that batch. But anyway! I've already made 2 or 3 skirts out of this fabric, so I thought of perhaps making some bloomers or a bag. But none of these ideas really hit me as inspirational, so I would love to get some other suggestions.

As for the white fabric I originally bought a year ago to make a shirt out of. But feeling it now and looking at it, I would never wear a shirt with that thick fabric. Once again I thought of bloomers, or perhaps a PJ set with black lace to contrast, but I'm not sure if I have enough... Suggestions?

I'll soon also make a post on everything I plan to do with my room as soon as I get the funds for it. Only a week left until I get my first student loan of the year!

What's in your bag?

This is best described with a picture.

The bag I use now is my Innocent World spade bag. This is the first brand item I bought, so it's very very dear to me. And just to make it a little more special I put a keyring with card suit charms on the zipper. As for the contents... Mobile, used cinema tickets to the last Harry Potter movie (pure epicness of a movie), some ear rings, necklace, a marble and some gum. Yupp. That's my bag at the moment.

And just to round it all up, here's a picture of my room at the moment. Just to keep as a reminder to myself of how tidy it can be if I just work for it! ... Ah... So much potential... I can't wait to DIY this place to heaven and back!

postheadericon Day 9!

10 things you will never do in lolita.

Getting back to the meme too! I surely have a lot to catch up on, but don't worry, I won't spam you. I'll just take these as I feel like it. As for this post I'll make it simple.

  1. Attend a funeral
Wedding, sure, but a funeral... No. I would never wear lolita to a funeral. I find it a little disrespectful and the others attending might see it as mockery despite it being gothic lolita.
  2. Physical training
    It says itself doesn't it?
  3. Puddle splashing
You know when you get your rainboots on and go jump in rain puddles? Yes, I still find that fun, but I don't want to make my dresses wet and dirty because of that.
  4. Go to a tivoli
The poof skirt would only get in the way through all of the rides! I could go in kodona (pants <3), but not in lolita.
  5. Gardening
I'm not a gardener, I hardly do any gardening at all, but I still wouldn't do it in lolita if I ever were to do it.
  6. Take art classes
All the clay and paint and woodwork... Painting I'd might do but I would be extra careful not to spill the paint.
And... Now I honestly can't think of more. Of course there is a lot I wouldn't do in general, but when it comes to somewhat daily things I would do, but not in lolita, I can't think of more. I guess I will update this if I think of more.

postheadericon Getting back into it

Summer vacation is coming to an end. And to think I thought I would get more time to blogging during that then I would during the school year! What a humongous lie...

Well... Truth is, I haven't been very inspired to blog at all. Simply because I had to leave all my lolita clothes and sewing machine back in my dorm, thanks to some complications on getting home. But good news people (assuming you who read this enjoy my blog)! Over the last week I've slowly been getting back into the routine checks of sew_loli, EGL and blogs. In other words, I thought it was about bloody time to do something about this absence of mine.

As I decided to do this on a whim I don't have that much to say. But as I did some window shopping on Etsy earlier, I thought I would share with you two absolutely wonderful shops I found. So let's get on with this as I keep enjoying The Empire Strikes Back on TV.

The first one I would like to share is RTBU (Refuse To Be Usual). This is for all of you who enjoy visual kei style and gothic accesories. I have to admit that a lot I have seen here is very unique, and for me who love to have a lot of charms dangling around (and also lack jewelry and accesories like this), this shop is right down my alley.

I will definatly order some pieces from this shop when I have money, and when I do I will do a small review.

The second shop is for all of you top hat enthusiasts. Personally I have an almost unhealthy fascination with top hats (we need more top hats in lolita!). So when I stumbled over Gypsy Lady Hats I thought I saw a little piece of Heaven before me. Here you can get top hats (and mini top hats!) custom made to your own size and some even in your preferred colours and styles. And best of all... In reasonable prices! ... Yes. I do, in fact, think 140$ for a full sized, custom, handmade tophat with such details is a reasonable price. I mean... Just look at these beauties!

I think about ALL of their hats has made it to my wishlist by now! So take a look if you feel like it, and I'll be getting back to you all soon! ... Perhaps I'll even be able to continue on the 30 day meme? Hmhmhm. One day at the time I think.

Oh and one last thing... Where did all the new followers come from? A great, big, happy "Hi and welcome!" to all of you who just stumbled over my little corner of the web, and I hope you all will keep on reading despite my long absense.

postheadericon Appologies and hiatus

Now, this won't be a very long post as I really have so much to do I don't have time to sit around moping as I'm doing at the moment. First of all, I appologize about my unannounced absense. Once again I headed back home to my hometown for a week and to celebrate the national day that was the 17th of May.

The lolita meetup was postponed because of bad weather, so I'll have to wait with going to my first meetup too. But I still went to Oslo with my boyfriend and we had a FABULOUS day! Last monday our japanese group (we have a japanese class with a small group of friends where the teacher is a friend of ours) went to our teacher's home too and had a japanese evening and celebrating spring. We sat by the kotatsu and ate yakisoba and drank sake while we looked out at our teacher's japanese garden... It was so fun and a really great evening!

Other then that... I noticed the 30 Days of Lolita meme is being done everywhere! *laughs* In one way it's really funny how memes spread around the internet like that and at the same time I'm pretty honoured that so many want to do the meme even if they don't know who started it even. It's fun!

Anyway. This is just a small update to announce I will still be on hiatus for at least one more week. Tomorrow I'm starting on my trip to Stockholm (will take about 24 hours with bus and train so I'll be there on wednesday) and I will meet my oldest and closes friend again! On wednesday evening we're going to a video game music concert (can't wait!!) and then we're off to Uppsala and Uppcon for good times with cosplay and friends. Next monday I'm handing in my last exams and after THAT I'll try to become more active again.

Thank you all for being so patient with me.

See you guys!

Oh and as a little bonus I'll add a picture of myself in my bunad (national costume) from our national day. I LOVE this dress <3 Possibly more then I love lolita clothes.

postheadericon Day 8!

10 songs that inspire you for lolita.

Ah! I've been looking forward to this post! Simply because I love music and this post will include a lot of music that I connect to lolita. So this is simply my take on lolita fitting music (and personal preferences in the same go), and my view of the fashion (and which side I like of it), is pretty well portrayed throught the following songs. Well except for the first one... There will be a lot of YouTube clips here, so just bare with me. Here we go!

1: Gothic Lolita - Emilie Autumn

I know you all saw this coming so that's why I'm posting it first! The reason is pretty self explainatory, so I won't go deeper in on that. Except that despite the "message" it gives, I love it. And yes; I am an Emilie Autumn fan.

Haunted Carousel - Nox Arcana

Actually their whole album, Carnival of Souls, fits with my idea of a gothic, creepy, lolita doll. As heard from the music I absolutely love this side of the fashion so there will be more of  this kind. This is also very fit as inspiration for me as I really want to have a dark carnival style in my wardrobe. I just don't have the items for it yet!

3: Gingerbread Coffin - Rasputina

First time I heard this song I immediatly fell in love. I think the music and lyrics all fit my personal view of the fashion and the little world that surrounds it.

4: Victor's Piano Solo - Danny Elfman

Actually... Tim Burton's movies in general are very fit for all gothic aspects of anything. Hehe... I just find this melody absolutely beautiful, and elegant and it's very inspiring for a soft gothic and or aristocrat look.

5: Impartial (The Battle) - The Clockwork Dolls

This song is beautiful. Full of hope, loyalty and fighting will! I love this and it inspires me simply by building confidence to face the world as the one I am and stand up for it. Everyone needs a motivational song like this, and luckily for me... I've got tons.

6: Lullaby - El Laberinto del Fauno

Such a beautiful and sad melody. I don't really have more to say about this.

7: Lacrimosa - Kalafina

This is the song I literally wake up to every morning. It's my alarm signal! Kalafina in general is a group I really like and their aestethics and music really fit in with what my view of lolita is. This song is also the ending song on the first season of Kuroshitsuji, and really... Any lolita+anime lover would agree that that series has got it right when it comes to mood, scenery and outfits.

8: Prelude - Versailles

More beautiful music from Japanese artists. Versailles is my favorite Visual Kei band and their music and styles is a great inspiration. I can't wait to see them live again on the 3rd of June!

9: Engel - Scala and the Kolacny Brothers

Now who would think that a song originally by Rammstein would ever make it to this list? Sure, they're always on my regular music list. I love Rammstein. But on the fashion show on Uppcon last year, this started playing and I was shocked as soon as I realized it actually was Engel. So I seeked the fashion show host up later and got the artist's name from her.

10: Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 in C-sharp minor - Franz Liszt

A lolita music list is nothing without some classical music. And since about ALL classical music can be viewed as lolita music I simply chose one of the pieces I love the most! It starts oh so serious, but as the piece proceeds it turns very humourous and playful. This community may be scary at first, but it's full of friendly people with a good dose of humour and self irony. Hehe.

As a little extra (as we didn't have enough youtube films here already), I will add my favorite Tom and Jerry episode which is built around the piece by Liszt. I grew up with this cartoon and I hope you'll enjoy! I'll see you all tomorrow. Toodles!

postheadericon Day 7!

10 people who inspire your lolita style.

Oh my... This is honestly a hard one. I take my inspiration from everything. Not only people! But there are a few lolitas/models that I really admire and love the style of. I don't have enough to fill out all 10 spots, but I will list those I admire.
  1. Akira
Yesh! Model for Baby the Stars Shine Bright/Alice and the Pirates (yes the header picture was chosen of her on purpose). This is also the only model I actually look up to. I'm not much of an "idol" person, but this woman... I think I might have a girlcrush on her. I always love her outfits in the GLB's and if I ever manage to pull the kodona/aristocrat look of just HALF as well as her, I will be one of the happiest people on this planet.
  2. Clefdemoname/Miinouche36
    Daily Lolita

She has to be the most awesome gothic lolita ever. A beautiful woman with an absolutely beautiful gothic style! That and I love her video blog.
  3. Shelbycloud
    Daily Lolita

She must be about the only sweet lolita I really admire. She's got a beautiful style and she's great at coordinating her outfits from everything to OTT sweet to very elegant classic.
  4. Theosakakoneko
    Daily Lolita

Just because her style is awesome. Whenever she ever posts her massive blogposts on daily_lolita I almost squeal in glee! She's so creative with her coordinations and I just LOVE her new haircut!
These are the four lolitas I truly look up to! Of course there are a lot of awesome lolitas around and I love to look around and grab inspiration from all of them. Keep going girls (and guys)! You're all awesome!! <3

postheadericon Day 6!

Whooops! A little late, but I'll make both Day 6 and Day 7 today. Day 7 will be up tonight.

10 things you can't live without in lolita.

Now this is an interesting topic. It might be a little hard to find 10 things I can't at all do without, but I'll try. Which is easier said then done as I've already stagnated at 5...
  1. Computer
This is one of the main things I need. Hadn't it been for the computer and internet I would have never discovered this fashion. I would have never been able to buy the clothes I own, do my research or gotten to know other lolitas. Not one day goes by without me checking out lolita related sites on the web, and I wouldn't have it any other way either.
  2. Bloomers
I absolutely hate wearing skirts without bloomers. I feel so naked and I'm always afraid people will see more then I want them to see. Therefor bloomers are a great invention that I won't leave the house without wearing. I even use them when wearing skirts and dresses that isn't lolita.
  3. Petticoat
So, yeah, I love poof! And a lolita dress or skirt without a petticoat... No. I do have ONE exception and that's empire waist dresses. They do fine without the extra poof. But then again I only have one of these too.
  4. Tights
For the same reason that I love bloomers. They cover me up and hide what I don't want to be shown. I do own some knee socks and OTK (actually a lot of them), but unless I wear a longer dress or skirt I always stick to tights.
  5. Hairstraightener
I do have naturally straight hair, but it's thin and easily goes astray. But a hairstraightener does wonders to sort it out and make it look good. I love my tiny hairstraightener that can come with me anywhere!
  6. Makeup
I wasn't a too big fan of makeup before, but lolita and cosplay has made me love it! I don't wear it everyday, but if I'm going out in lolita I always wear makeup.
  7. Friends
Well, these I can't do without no matter what. But I really appreciate the one who holds out when I start rambling on about lolita, designs, dresses I want and so on. I don't think she's reading this blog, but if she did she'd know who she was! Also, the friends I've made over the web means a lot to me too!
  8. Boots
Know those boots I wear all the time? The knee high lace-up boots? Those. Those I can't live without. Simple as that. I love them too much!
  9. Pen and paper
Yes, you guessed right; For drawing pictures and designs. Drawing is one of my favorite hobbies (even though I've been pretty inactive lately..), so I don't go anywhere without bringing something to draw on with me.
  10. PSP/GBA SP
Okayokayokay, not lolite related, but I ran out of things to write, as you perhaps noticed over the three last points. Hehe... I'm a game nerd, and I'm in love with these to hand consols. So there.
I'll be back in the evening with the post for Day 7.
