Day 8!
10 songs that inspire you for lolita.
Ah! I've been looking forward to this post! Simply because I love music and this post will include a lot of music that I connect to lolita. So this is simply my take on lolita fitting music (and personal preferences in the same go), and my view of the fashion (and which side I like of it), is pretty well portrayed throught the following songs. Well except for the first one... There will be a lot of YouTube clips here, so just bare with me. Here we go!
Here we go!
1: Gothic Lolita - Emilie Autumn
I know you all saw this coming so that's why I'm posting it first! The reason is pretty self explainatory, so I won't go deeper in on that. Except that despite the "message" it gives, I love it. And yes; I am an Emilie Autumn fan.
Haunted Carousel - Nox Arcana
Actually their whole album, Carnival of Souls, fits with my idea of a gothic, creepy, lolita doll. As heard from the music I absolutely love this side of the fashion so there will be more of this kind. This is also very fit as inspiration for me as I really want to have a dark carnival style in my wardrobe. I just don't have the items for it yet!
3: Gingerbread Coffin - Rasputina
First time I heard this song I immediatly fell in love. I think the music and lyrics all fit my personal view of the fashion and the little world that surrounds it.
4: Victor's Piano Solo - Danny Elfman
Actually... Tim Burton's movies in general are very fit for all gothic aspects of anything. Hehe... I just find this melody absolutely beautiful, and elegant and it's very inspiring for a soft gothic and or aristocrat look.
5: Impartial (The Battle) - The Clockwork Dolls
This song is beautiful. Full of hope, loyalty and fighting will! I love this and it inspires me simply by building confidence to face the world as the one I am and stand up for it. Everyone needs a motivational song like this, and luckily for me... I've got tons.
6: Lullaby - El Laberinto del Fauno
Such a beautiful and sad melody. I don't really have more to say about this.
7: Lacrimosa - Kalafina
This is the song I literally wake up to every morning. It's my alarm signal! Kalafina in general is a group I really like and their aestethics and music really fit in with what my view of lolita is. This song is also the ending song on the first season of Kuroshitsuji, and really... Any lolita+anime lover would agree that that series has got it right when it comes to mood, scenery and outfits.
8: Prelude - Versailles
More beautiful music from Japanese artists. Versailles is my favorite Visual Kei band and their music and styles is a great inspiration. I can't wait to see them live again on the 3rd of June!
9: Engel - Scala and the Kolacny Brothers
Now who would think that a song originally by Rammstein would ever make it to this list? Sure, they're always on my regular music list. I love Rammstein. But on the fashion show on Uppcon last year, this started playing and I was shocked as soon as I realized it actually was Engel. So I seeked the fashion show host up later and got the artist's name from her.
10: Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 in C-sharp minor - Franz Liszt
A lolita music list is nothing without some classical music. And since about ALL classical music can be viewed as lolita music I simply chose one of the pieces I love the most! It starts oh so serious, but as the piece proceeds it turns very humourous and playful. This community may be scary at first, but it's full of friendly people with a good dose of humour and self irony. Hehe.
As a little extra (as we didn't have enough youtube films here already), I will add my favorite Tom and Jerry episode which is built around the piece by Liszt. I grew up with this cartoon and I hope you'll enjoy! I'll see you all tomorrow. Toodles!
